About The Green Stores
The Green Stores is a sustainable online department store. We only make or hand-pick products which have an ethical and/or sustainable story, meaning we know exactly where each product comes from, whose hands have made it, and what materials have been used to make it.
Our business is structured around our core values which are: Ethical, Sustainable, Organic, UK Made, Hand Made and Zero Waste.
We exist because we struggled to find beautifully designed items which could stand up these values. We have brought together some of our favourite UK based makers and designers to bring you The Green Stores Group.
We are in the process of looking for a physical premises in the Reigate, Surrey area. Our mission, is to provide exceptional coffee and all-day brunch, all which is locally sourced. We aim to create a thoughtful and beautiful space which brings joy to our customers.
In addition to the cafe, we will offer an array of refillable food, household and personal care items. Helping our everyday routine be less wasteful. We aim to make a lower impact lifestyle, accessible and affordable. Everything we sell will be tried, tested, tasted and loved by us. Making sure that each product is thoughtfully designed, well crafted, and sourced from only the best growers, makers and creators. And we make sure to champion local small businesses at every opportunity too.
But we won’t stop there. We will also be hosting a series of workshops to inspire our customers to get creative, learn new skills or knowledge, and meet with friends, new and old.
Kate + AliceOur story began over 10 years ago when we met at Art College. We soon realised that we both had a love for beautiful things, creativity, cafe culture and travel, and so naturally, we became friends.
The basic concept of The Green Stores was a dream that we discovered both of us had from a young age. Over the years it became increasingly clear that we shared the values, vision and desire to create a space which encompassed our three favourite things: re-purposing vintage interiors, getting creative and brunch! We decided to combine forces to turn our dreams into reality.
The Original Green Store
The inspiration for our name comes from Alice’s Great Grandparents, Albert and Ethel Green, who owned a corner shop called The Green Store in South London from 1949 until the 1970’s. They sold an array of confectionery, household items and fresh cakes made by Ethel.
Alice says, “My Nannie tells me the stories of when she was a small child, sneaking downstairs late at night to help herself to some boiled sweets, or how the sweet smell of cakes baking would wake her in the early morning.”
These stories and our shared love of coffee and collecting beautiful things are the inspiration for what The Green Stores is today.
